Anonymous asked: "Just wanted to say I really love this page and was wondering if you have any advice to someone thinking of starting a books blog? Thanks :)"

books-cupcakes:

Thank you!! My advice to you would be:

Organization: Nothing is worse than a messy blog. Find a theme that is organized and reader friendly.

Friendly: Speaking of friendly, be nice! Now you don’t have to be nice 100% of the time because that’s unrealistic but try to be kind and open to making new friendships. Also, you may get anon hate, take it with a grain of salt, people have too much time on their hands.

Content: It’s a book blog so post books obviously! hahaha. But try to incorporate something new like reviews, or waiting for Wednesdays, or a book club! This will not only get more people interested in your blog but it will making blog fun!

Lastly: JUST DO IT!! Having a book blog is so rewarding. I’ve made so many friends and I’ve discovered tons of books all thanks to this blog.

Good luck! If you ever need suggestions or anything I’m here!

all of the above. If you’re thinking of starting a book blog, get into it!

I could see why that original post would be annoying though. One person can pick up a book and think it’s amazing whilst someone else might see it as OK, but not amazing, it’s human nature- we’re all different. Perhaps try and recommend her goodreads and they’ll see other books on there instead! :)

this too. How much we like a book is all relative to our own personal opinions and perspectives. It’s unfortunate that the person the anon was talking about only read books that the anon absolutely loved, because they may have missed out on a lot of favourites

She claims that reading is “her thing” and she never reads anything if I haven’t read it. She waits for my opinion on a book and if it doesn’t sound like the most incredible thing I have ever read, she won’t read it. It frustrates me so much because she doesn’t pronounce titles right and didn’t even know YA was a category or that dystopian books are a genre. ugh :(”
book yoda~. I wasn’t really aware of the YA genre either, until I joined tumblr. I used to get most of my book recommendations from my older sister, so I kinda rushed into adult books…
(I couldn’t not throw in Book Yoda- it was too good an opportunity)
But yeah, exactly. We’re all just influenced by our experiences and the people around us until we figure out what we can do for ourselves.
And there’s nothing wrong with adult books at all, but YA is just as great, so learning that it’s out there and figuring out what you love is such a great feeling.

“Your words have changed me, Tess; they have made me a better man than I have been otherwise. Life is a book, and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read. I would read them together with you, as many as I can, before I die”

biggest pet peeve: when a person walks up to a bookstore register and asks the employees if they think bookstores will cease to exist because of eReaders

This makes me think of a quote where somebody compares physical books and ereaders to stairs and lifts. I really…

Exactly, yes, thank you! People still love holding physical books and collecting them if they can afford the luxury. I hear this conversation almost every day about how they can’t stand staring at the screen for too long or they dont understand how to use ereaders.

I use both an ereader and actual books. I buy both. Sometimes ill get the digital copy first if I cant afford the physical copy immediately, but I /will/ get it eventually.
Its all about convinience, appreciation, and the love of written word. All ereaders have done is give us more options.
