I finished reading These Broken Stars a couple of days ago (and yes, it was amazing, and very different from what I was expecting but in a good way) and now I’m reading Graceling by Kristin Cashore (in swedish). What are you reading?

Review: Solitaire by Alice Oseman

Available here: Book Depository

[Goodreads Link]

This is the story of Tori Spring: a girl who likes to sleep and blog. It’s a story about the difficulty of forming and keeping hold of friendships; about not knowing how to hold yourself together; learning to be okay; seeing the people you’re surrounded by as entire, whole beings with full lives and difficulties; learning that fantasy is not reality.

Characters:

My favourite thing about this novel was the characters. How well rounded they were and how fleshed out and full their lives felt. They were more than background characters filling the void. I also have a great appreciation for the character development for Tori throughout the book, and I loved being inside her head.

Writing:

The writing flowed quickly and wasn’t boring at all. There’s also a lot of really well written moments when the characters would be talking to each other about the most random things and they would be metaphors for the characters themselves.

There are so many pop culture and book references, too. Alice Oseman really brings in the fandom part of our lives and I enjoyed that immensely because I knew exactly what she was talking about.

Another favourite thing of mine is that this truly feels like high school. Melodramatic teenagers and students hating homework and life, which comes straight from the fact that Oseman is still a teenager herself. All the characters are the people we know in our everyday lives, and it didn’t feel at all ridiculous.

I really appreciated the way the plot fell together. For a lot of the novel it feels like there isn’t much of a plot at all because there’s a primary focus on the characters and the relationships. It’s a very character driven novel, but the plot is there and it comes together subtly.

Favourite non-spoilery quote:

"It’s raining." He leans on his hand. "If the sun came back out, there’d be a rainbow. It’d be beautiful."

I look out of the window. The sky is grey. “There doesn’t need to be a rainbow for it to be beautiful.”

Overall Rating:
5/5

GET TO KNOW ME MEME | Favorite Movies [2/3]  The Perks Of Being Wallflower (2012)

"So I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them."

Woah woah woah woah woah! I’m only 13 followers away from 200, which may not seem like much to some people but wow, I’m so so grateful. This is a massive achievement in my eyes and I just want to say a massive thank you to all of you guys.
I’m just going to list off a few people who are absolutely amazing and who have made my time on here so far a fantastic experience, and who have helped me gain the amount of followers that I am currently at.
So, massive thank you to the wonderful Mary from books-and-cookies, and Alison from readaroundtherosie who when I first started on here helped me out a lot. I would also like to thank all those people who I class as my friends, which I already made a small list on here. If you’re not following everyone on that list, you should be. I haven’t had one bad experience on this site, and I would like to thank all of you for that. You guys are all amazing, all 187 of you!
Again, it may not seem like much but it means the world to me.
Love you guys!

Awww, you are absolutely lovely, my dear. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the community, and I love seeing you on my dash :)
